Why major Chinese dental labs are missing from English AI recommendation lists

A few days ago, I used Doubao, Yuanbao and DeepSeek to simulate a Chinese dental clinic owner looking for a Shenzhen denture factory.

Familiar domestic names—Kangtaijian, Yangzijing, Xinzimei and Jiahong—appeared frequently. The original Chinese test is available here: Which Shenzhen denture factories does AI see first?

The shortlist changed when the questions changed to English

I then asked ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overview a buyer-style question in English:

Which Chinese dental labs have FDA registration and are suitable for long-term cooperation?

The names were almost entirely different.

Chinese-language and English-language AI tests produced two different Chinese dental lab shortlists
Two tests, two shortlists. The conditions differed, but so did the companies surfaced.

My first assumption was that domestic and export business simply belonged to two separate groups of factories. Further checks showed a more complicated picture.

Some factories mainly serve China. Some specialize in overseas orders. Others serve both markets through different brands, legal entities and sales channels.

For example, Chinese AI mentioned “Yangzijing,” while English AI mentioned “Modern Dental.” They are part of the same broader group structure.

High export volume does not guarantee brand visibility

The denture industry also includes a common model in which an overseas laboratory wins the order and a factory in China handles production. The dentist sees the European or North American laboratory brand and may never learn the name of the Chinese manufacturer behind it.

A Chinese dental lab can produce many export orders without its own brand becoming visible to overseas dentists
Export volume is not the same as overseas visibility for the manufacturer's own brand.

Why English-language AI found another group of labs

The companies surfaced by English AI usually had websites that directly answered questions an overseas procurement manager would care about:

  • Do they accept outsourced dental work?
  • How is communication handled?
  • What are the turnaround times?
  • How is international shipping managed?
  • What happens when a case needs a remake?
  • Which registrations, certifications or qualifications are documented?

These companies may not be the largest dental labs in China. But their English pages look more like the answer an overseas buyer is trying to find.

English AI can more easily identify Chinese dental labs whose websites explain outsourcing communication delivery shipping remakes and qualifications
Export-facing English evidence helps a company enter the AI candidate set.

Finding a company is not the same as identifying it correctly

Some Chinese names were only machine translations. In other cases, the English brand, the Chinese production site and the entity shown in an FDA record did not use the same name.

AI may confuse a dental lab brand Chinese factory overseas company and FDA registration entity
AI may find the general business while failing to resolve the entity relationship.

FDA checks: six of ten candidates broadly matched

I checked ten candidate brands from the AI answers. Six could be broadly matched to FDA records. One had a possible registration entity, but the relationship still required proof. For the remaining three, I had not yet closed the loop on the current registration entity.

FDA verification of ten Chinese dental lab candidates found six broad matches one possible entity and three unresolved entity relationships
AI produces procurement leads, not a completed due-diligence conclusion.

An AI shortlist can therefore be used as a procurement lead, but it should not be treated as due diligence. Even so, Western procurement managers are increasingly likely to include AI results in their initial longlist.

RMB 99 export AI visibility snapshot for Chinese dental labs

The snapshot checks whether AI knows the company, which competitors appear beside it, which public sources are used, and whether obvious entity mismatches exist.

It does not promise AI ranking dominance or control over AI answers.

The first job is to establish what AI can see, what it cannot see, and what it has identified incorrectly.
